Dr. Sukhdeep (Sukhi) Singh, DVM

Veterinarian, Practice Owner

Dr. Sukhdeep (Sukhi) Singh is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, class of 2005. She got into the field of veterinary medicine when she was 13 years old and has never looked back since. Her natural love for animals helped her find her calling, and despite her family’s desire for her to pursue human medicine, she remained steadfast and followed her passion. Dr. Singh comes from a traditional “Sikh” family. The word Sikh means student. To this end, Dr. Singh has devoted her life to honing her veterinary practitioner skills to help her clients support their sacred human-animal bond. She also takes regular continuing education courses to stay current in the ever-evolving world of veterinary medicine. Her special interests are Dentistry, Soft Tissue Surgery, and Internal Medicine.

Dr. Singh is married to a family physician and often jokes that her patients are better. They have one daughter who you may spot volunteering at the practice, as she hopes to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Their fur baby is a senior, special-needs rescue cat named Choko who is a mischievous cuddle-bug. During her free time, Dr. Singh enjoys spending time with her family, taking short vacations and dancing.

Azraa Zoom

Student Veterinarian

Azraa began her first career in corporate finance after completing a double major in Biotechnology and Economics at the University of Waterloo. Her volunteer experience with animal rescue organizations and shadowing at veterinary clinics helped her discover her passion for veterinary medicine and embark on a second career within this profession. She is currently pursuing her DVM at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and has a particular interest in internal medicine, surgery and urgent care.

Azraa lives in East York with her husband, sister, two dogs (Ixi and Betsy) and five cats (Teeny, Gucci, Fuzzle, Lumi, Quasi). Her own pets have had a variety of surgical, infectious, endocrine, cardiological and other medical conditions that has enriched her learning, and deepened her empathy for other pet owners going through these experiences as well. Apart from spending quality time with her furry family, she enjoys playing tennis, going on hikes and trying unique food experiences and cuisines in the city.

Nicole

Vet Assistant

Nicole began her career as a web designer before transitioning to the veterinary field in early 2018, starting out as a receptionist at an emergency clinic. In October 2020, she joined Balmy Beach Pet Hospital, bringing her passion for animal behaviour and patient care. Her experience with her own two nervous and reactive German Shepherds, Emma and Titan, has helped shape her talent for making anxious pets feel safe and comfortable. Nicole is also the proud owner of a crested gecko named Alan and a large collection of houseplants. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking through nature, long drives and creative projects – like building a bioactive terrarium for Alan.

Caren

Receptionist

Coming from a background in retail and museums, Caren began working at vet clinics in 2018, and hasn’t looked back since! Starting with us in 2022, she’s become a fixture at the clinic with her cheerful personality and passion for client care. Since 2023, she’s been attending courses with Mohawk College’s Continuing Education program for Vet Clinic Management to help broaden her knowledge. She’s keenly interested in exotic pet husbandry, zoology, and wildlife stewardship. When she’s not doting on your pets, Caren can be found attending rock concerts, dragging her partner out for bird watching, or staying at home hanging out and playing video games with her 3 lovebirds: Wendle, Scooter, and Stevie!

Harika Dirisala

Veterinary Technician

I’m a veterinary technician with a strong passion for animals and a goal of becoming a licensed veterinarian. Right now, I’m focused on preparing for my licensing exams while continuing to build my hands-on experience in patient care and treatments. I love being able to work closely with animals every day and feel rewarded knowing I’m helping them get better. My career so far has given me a solid foundation, and I’m looking forward to taking the next step in the field of veterinary medicine.

Tom Zhang

Tom is currently pursuing a degree in neuroscience and genetics at the University of Toronto. Coming from a background of largely retail experiences, he has learned a lot about veterinary procedures and animal care since joining the team at Balmy Beach.

Tom’s favorite part of his role is getting to play and spend time with all the rescue cats that come into the clinic. In his spare time, Tom enjoys watching movies, hanging out with friends, and chasing around his two Bengal cats Lina and Lilly.

Nav Singh

Office Manager

Nav is the Office Manager at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital. With hard work and sheer determination she got admitted to Ontario Veterinary College at 22 years of age, however had to discontinue her path to becoming a Veterinarian due to personal and health reasons.
