Dr. Sukhdeep (Sukhi) Singh, DVM
Veterinarian, Practice Owner
Dr. Sukhdeep “Sukhi” Singh is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, Class of 2005. Her lifelong love of animals inspired her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, and she has remained passionate about helping pets and their families ever since. Dr. Singh is committed to lifelong learning and regularly participates in continuing education to stay current in the ever-evolving field of veterinary medicine. Her professional interests include dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine.
Dr. Singh is married to a family physician and often jokes that her patients are better. Together, they have one daughter who may occasionally be spotted volunteering at the clinic and hopes to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Their furry family member is Choko, a senior special-needs rescue cat with a mischievous personality and a love of cuddles.
Outside of work, Dr. Singh enjoys spending time with her family, taking short vacations, and dancing.
Dr. Azraa Zoom, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Azraa Zoom had a first career in corporate finance after earning a double major in Biotechnology and Economics from the University of Waterloo. Volunteer work with animal rescue organizations and veterinary clinics inspired her transition into veterinary medicine. She is a graduate of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is the recipient of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society Prize.
Dr. Zoom is committed to practicing fear free medicine and believes in meeting pet owners where they are, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and involved in their pet’s care. Her professional interests include internal medicine, surgery, and urgent care, with a particular focus on working up complex cases and providing thorough, thoughtful care.
She lives in East York with her family, two dogs, Ixi and Betsy, and five cats, Teeny, Gucci, Fuzzle, Lumi, and Quasi. Her own pets have experienced a range of medical conditions, which has strengthened her empathy and understanding for clients going through similar situations. Outside of work, she enjoys tennis, hiking, and exploring new foods around the city.
Nicole Wallace
Veterinary Assistant
Nicole is a Veterinary Assistant at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital. She began her career as a web designer before transitioning to the veterinary field in early 2018, starting out as a receptionist at an emergency clinic. In October 2020, she joined Balmy Beach Pet Hospital, bringing her passion for animal behaviour and patient care.
She is particularly skilled at handling and working with anxious or fearful animals, using fear free approaches to help make their visits as calm and comfortable as possible. Her experience with her own two nervous and reactive German Shepherds, Emma and Titan, has further developed her ability to support stressed patients.
Nicole is also the proud owner of a crested gecko named Alan and a large collection of houseplants. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking through nature, long drives, and creative projects like building a bioactive terrarium for Alan.
Avi Pillai
Veterinary Technician
Avi is a Veterinary Technician at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital who brings a calm, approachable presence to the clinic. With a natural ability to put both pets and their families at ease, he helps make even stressful visits feel more manageable and supported.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry and has built his career on a strong commitment to animal welfare in a variety of settings. His experience includes spay and neuter programs in India as well as community outreach with farmers, pet owners, and rescue organizations. This diverse background has shaped his practical, thoughtful approach to patient care.
Avi lives downtown with his wife and their rescue cat, Mona. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, listening to music, and taking karaoke very seriously. He is passionate about providing compassionate care and believes that supporting pet owners is just as important as caring for the animals themselves.
Eddie Roohi
Veterinary Technician
Eddie began his veterinary career as a veterinarian in Iran, where he and his wife owned and operated a small animal clinic together for nearly seven years. During that time, he developed a strong interest in surgery and enjoyed building lasting relationships with pets and their families.
After immigrating to Canada, Eddie joined Balmy Beach Pet Hospital as a Veterinary Technician while working toward obtaining equivalency for his veterinary degree. He is passionate about providing compassionate care and helping pets feel comfortable and safe during their visits. He especially enjoys being part of a supportive team dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of animals.
Outside of work, Eddie enjoys spending time with his wife, exploring nature, walking through local parks, and watching movies. He and his wife shared a beloved Husky named Venus, whose companionship strengthened his appreciation for the special bond between people and their pets.
Krupa Patel
Veterinary Technician
Krupa graduated from veterinary school abroad in 2024 and is currently working as a Veterinary Technician while completing her licensure in Canada. She is focused on building strong clinical skills and gaining hands-on experience in small animal medicine. Krupa is known for her excellent attention to detail and genuine curiosity, and she brings a thoughtful, eager-to-learn approach to her work each day.
Krupa shares her life with Leo, her 8-year-old German Shepherd mix and constant companion. He has been by her side through every stage of her journey, and his calm presence continues to remind her why she feels so passionate about caring for animals.
Outside the clinic, Krupa enjoys sports, hiking, and painting in her free time, and appreciates anything that keeps her learning and engaged.
Kelly Rasool
Receptionist
Kelly is a dedicated receptionist at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital who joined the team in August 2025. She brings nearly six years of experience in a variety of veterinary roles, with a strong passion for client care and service. Kelly enjoys helping clients feel welcomed and supported, and is always happy to answer questions and assist with their pets’ visits. Her love for animals and meaningful work is what brought her to Balmy Beach.
In her spare time, you can find Kelly outdoors exploring with a book never far from reach. Although she experienced the loss of her beloved dog in 2025, she has since welcomed Emma, Kevin, and Marley into her home, who have brought comfort, companionship, and joy.
Caren Meaney
Receptionist
Caren is a Receptionist at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital and joined the team in 2022, quickly becoming a familiar and welcoming presence at the front desk. She began her career in veterinary medicine in 2018 after working in retail and museums, and has since built a strong passion for client service and patient care. Caren especially enjoys greeting clients, supporting them through both joyful and difficult moments, and helping ensure each visit runs smoothly.
She has a keen interest in exotic animals, zoology, and wildlife stewardship, and is currently taking Veterinary Clinic Management courses at Mohawk College to further develop her skills in the field.
Outside of work, Caren lives in Whitby with her family and her flock of lovebirds—Wendle, Scooter, and Stevie—as well as her budgies PeeWee and Pippin. In her free time, she enjoys sewing, playing video games, and roller derby.
Tom Zhang
Veterinary Assistant
Tom joined Balmy Beach Pet Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant, bringing with him a degree in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto and a strong interest in pursuing a career in human healthcare. With a background in retail and customer service, he is known for his friendly, approachable nature and commitment to providing an exceptional experience for clients and their pets. Since joining the team, Tom has developed valuable skills in patient care and plays an important role in helping maintain the smooth flow of the clinic each day.
Tom’s favourite part of his role is spending time with the many rescue cats that come through the clinic and helping them feel comfortable during their visits. Outside of work, he enjoys watching movies, spending time with friends, and chasing around his two energetic Bengal cats, Lina and Lilly.
Lauren Calvert
Veterinary Assistant, Receptionist
Lauren first joined Balmy Beach Pet Hospital as a volunteer in 2023 while pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at the University of Guelph. Over the past two summers, she has worked as a veterinary assistant and receptionist, developing her skills in patient care, client communication, and the day-to-day operations of a busy veterinary clinic. Her experiences have strengthened her passion for veterinary medicine and supporting both pets and their families.
At home, Lauren shares her life with her cat, Jaxson, and her dog, Winston. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys training for triathlons and marathons, going for walks with Winston, and spending time with friends and family. Lauren is dedicated to creating a welcoming and comfortable experience for both patients and clients and loves being part of their care journey.
Liam Lesser
Veterinary Assistant
Liam is a Veterinary Assistant at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital and a recent graduate of the Animal Biology program at the University of Guelph. With a strong passion for animal care and conservation, he hopes to pursue a career as a wildlife veterinarian in the future. Liam has gained hands-on experience in a variety of small animal hospitals and plays an important role in caring for hospitalized patients at the clinic.
His interest in wildlife medicine was inspired by experiences in conservation education at the Toronto Zoo and bird banding at Tommy Thompson Park. These opportunities sparked his commitment to protecting threatened wildlife species and continue to motivate his professional growth.
Born and raised in The Beaches, Liam enjoys running along the boardwalk and spending time with his rescue dog, Toto, whom he adopted from the Toronto Humane Society. He loves being part of a team dedicated to providing compassionate care to pets and their families.
Elisa Di Leo
Veterinary Assistant
Elisa is a Veterinary Assistant at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital. Growing up with a variety of pets, including German Shepherds, Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, and even a gecko, helped shape her love for animals from an early age.
She is currently studying to become a Veterinary Technician at Sheridan College, where she is building her knowledge in animal handling, anatomy, and patient care. At Balmy Beach, she assists the veterinary team to help ensure pets receive attentive, high-quality care while also helping keep the clinic clean, organized, and safe.
Outside of the clinic, Elisa enjoys spending her free time watching movies, crafting, and spending time with friends.
Mick Lewin
Veterinary Assistant
Mick is a Veterinary Assistant at Balmy Beach Pet Hospital. He started his journey with the clinic as a co-op student and has remained part of the team ever since, growing his skills and passion for veterinary medicine along the way. He is currently studying Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of Guelph, with the goal of becoming a veterinarian in the future.
Mick shares his life with his Miniature Pinscher, Bambi. Outside of work and school, he enjoys walking along the Beach, reading, and cooking. He is dedicated to continuing his learning in the veterinary field and enjoys being part of a team that provides compassionate care to every patient.
